ABC Wednesday-P For Petunia

ABC Wednesday again, this week, my letter P is for “Petunia”. Yes, Petunia is my most favorite flower, I have a lot of pictures of petunia.
Petunias is one of my most popular garden plants. The three potted petunia plants in this post are taken from my “corridor garden”. Petunia is one kind of plant best suited for a flower pot or hanging basket, but required quite a lot of sunlight and water. I hang them high  on the railing, so they can have more sunlight. Petunias need at least a few hours of sunlight, they'll perform even better when located in full sun all day.

My friends told me to grow Petunia from seeds, actually petunia seeds are very fine, growing from seeds is a troublesome work...I always propagate petunia from the existing ones which I  bought from nursery, (remember to choose those healthy growing with a lot of blooms one), cut off about 10 cm from the top, remove some leaves, leave a few leaves and cut it in half to reduce stress, slice the cut end, so it will absorb more water. Stick the cutting in compost, leave it in a blight place and just water a little daily for about 2 weeks. By then you will have roots and the plant is on it's own. Though not all my cutting can survive, but at least  80%, good enough. By the time the new potted petunia flowering, the old mother plant mostly die already. It is happy to see new plant growing, to a plant lover, it is one kind of challenge too. The most important, by pinching out the tops of the existing plants will encourage bushy growth too, the plant will grow more healthy and more flowers.
Wish you enjoy gardening too, plant some petunia, it is not that difficult to grow…Remember give them more sunlight, water them daily but not too much, over-watering will cause yellow foliage, and the eventual death of the plant. And of course apply some slow release fertilizer once every two months…
Well, if you enjoy my tips on planting petunia, leave some comments here. Thank you.

Well, I didn't know you could propagate petunias like that! How interesting! I do love them though, such bright, cheerful flowers, and some of the smell wonderful, too!

On behalf of the team, thanks for taking part in ABC Wednesday this week! :)
